horse injured eye, don't know what he did!

We went out tonight to check on the boys flavored salt blocks(they must not like them cause they're still there lol) and when we brought them into their stalls we found a new injury

Shahs left eye is swollen, hes only holding it about half open and it has LOTS of white eye goo in it! It appears he MAY have been kicked in the face or whacked it on something because its tender all around it too and there are 2 small nics on his face.

We cleaned his eye out the best we could and he reluctantly let us,poor horse. I am posting pics of it after it had been cleaned out hoping maybe the swelling will show up in the pics. You can see he's eating with that eye partially closed. Tom is going back first thing in the a.m., BM is keeping an eye on him tonight.

Anyone have experience with eye injuries, suggestions? That horse has ripped his neck open two or three times, had messed up feet and got shod just to toss a shoe on Sat. and we had to pull the other one and now his eye is injured

I don't know WHAT to do with him!

If I COULD believe me, I WOULD! LOL I swear he's gonna make me crazy! I swear he wants attention and hes getting it!

I can't get a vet until at least tomorrow I've not slept in over 24 hrs and I just don't have it in me to be up all night before my big state test tomorrow.Hubby will go be with him again in the a.m. and BM will call tonight it it goos up again or gets worse.

I just wanna know suggestions on the best way to clean an injured or dirty eye at home so I don't make it worse and so next time I'll be ready LOL

If it doesn't clear up in a day, call the vet. They'll probably give you something like polysprine eye drops to get rid of whatever is causing the white goo. But, just to be sure there is no internal bleeding/swelling of such, call the vet!

well do you have a turkey baseter? hehe...... well do you have eye drops, i know they have special kinds for horses you can get at like petco, but im sure human eye drops wouldnt hurt, as for the turkey baseter well that would be flushing out the eye with warm water

They make a really great saline wash for horse's eyes, it is called clear eyes. I have used it before in similar situations. A damp soft paper towel will also ease the cleaning of the dried **** stuck near his duct. I bet he bumped in really hard. Mr. C occasionally does that...silly Arabs I think if he had been kicked in the face you would know, those facial bones are pretty fragile and wouldnt withstand a kick very well...but he could have been. I would just try to keep it clean and rinsed with a saline solution and see if it get better in a few days.
