Horse Hair on a weft?

As we all know Max rubbed his mane out last fall. Although it's been growing and its almost to the point where it will start to fall over (he has quite a mowhawk at the moment) I was looking into getting him a faux mane. The only reason I'm thinking about this is because Max is going to be the King's horse for a parade and lots of photos will be taken. He's gorgeous anyways but I want him to look his best.

I've been talking with the lady at Broomtails and she says she can sell me a bundle of hair on a weft for $50. A bundle is 45 inches or longer in length and the hair is 16-20 inches and wavy like Max's. She said I'd really need to get two as one isn't really thick enough; see pic:

Am I crazy for thinking about this? Is there anyplace that sells the hair directly for less?

I definatly would do this, OR braid his hair up in tiny braides with ribbons or a running braid with ribbon!

That actuaally sounds like a good idea, I know TOO many people that have horses rubbing out their gorgeous mane . Sounds like it would be worth a shot, I also like the braiding idea.

I don't think that it's a bad idea How much of his mane did he rub out? You could look into smaller, thicher extensions like these:
http://www.newhorsetails.com/ManeForelock.html
They're 11" long and 1.5" wide, they're $15 each, so if you don't have a lot of mane to cover, something like this would be ceaper in the long run

http://cgi.ebay.com/mane-horse-hair-...QQcmdZViewItem <<one on ebay... I dk much about it since it isn't very descriptive, but you could contact the seller...

His whole mane is gone. After several months he now has quite a mowhawk.

You know, I was thinking; it doesn't *have* to be horsehair, does it? As long as it's black and wavy? I'm going to check out some hair extension places I know so see if there is any synthetic stuff I can work with.

That's all I have to say about that *LOL*

Definately check out some hair extension places instead - it may be a lot cheaper for you...

You could always braid him up (like a plaited mane - you know, those bigger-round braided balls *lol* am I even making sense??? I don't know what to call those braids *hehe*) and put big roses in it (fake ones, obviously ) one secured on each braid... I'm thinking that that would look stunning against his back coat Maybe I just have a picture in my head that isn't possible, but it would def. be cheaper than extensions!!

Please post before and after pics once you've found a solution. I know I'd be interested.
