Horse fungus?

Hey does anybody know how to cure fungus? my horse has a hairless spot about 2 in. by 2 in. on his neck behind his ear. i'm pretty sure he's being affected by something in the fungi family but the bald spot doesn't itch him and the skin is a smooth, shiney black with an occational raised bump. he has had it for over a year and ever since i first noticed it, i've been treating it but without any success. i've tried athletes foot cream and nu-stock but neither have helped. any sugestions? please, i'm desperate.

If the problem has persisted for a year, the skin looks pretty smooth and healthy short of being hairless and topical fungal treatments haven't worked, you can bet it's probably not a fungus.

Does the bald patch coincide with where a halter or bridle would lie? Does your horse wear a halter all the time?

Without knowing what is causing it, you can't know what will fix it. It's time to get your vet out to examine the area and possibly take a small skin biopsy to send off for pathology.
