Unhappy Horse Feed Prices

It seems that even the cheapest of feeds are costing $7.00 for a 50% bag of
12 % proteined sweet feed.

I feed Seminole - Ultra Dynamix; while it's not the most expensive brand by any means - it's still $9.75 per bag, ouch!

It seems like the "feed" manufacturers would eventually price itself right out of the buyer's market. I mean I know we have to feed our horses and everything....... I'm just hoping a NEW manufacturer will arise and offer a more affordable price on feeds.

What "brand" are you guys feeding and paying....

I feed specially mixed feed to my filly, runs me $20 a hundred...

And for my others I feed 10-12% sweet feed, also specially mixed by a different mill (Uncle Judd's) for $11.00 per hundred.

it's great, my horses thrive on the cheapest feed! i'm always forgetting how much it costs, something like 7 bucks a bag. it's 12-14%. i've given them more expensive stuff, but they didn't like it as well, and it didn't make a difference in them so i switched back. they love it!

I can tell you right now why prices are high.

The cost of the grains have gone up, so unfortunately, so do our bags of grain. Mine is the "CHEAP" feed, and even mine has gone up, mostly from the fuel costs to GET it to places.

Which when fuel goes up, so does the cost of grain because of transportation costs.

I use Martindale feeds. So far, I have really liked the quality and pricing. The horse feeds are not changed that much, so the "colic" rate from cheap bag to cheap bag is no where near as high as other feed manufacturers. I haven't had any complaints myself.

I use "Horse and Mule" and I pay $6.00 for 50 lbs. It was 5.50 last summer.
