horse falling over/fainting in fear???

OK, ya I know this is weird BUT I have to ask! The other boarder at our barn has a recently gelded and broke 5 y/o Paso Fino. This horse has not once but twice been on a trail ride and when he ran into a deer, yes a deer, BOTH times he literally froze in his tracks and fell over stiff like he fainted ROFLMAO

He would then just stand up and finish the ride like nothing ever happened. I have never in my life EVER seen or heard of something like this before I met him and I'm wondering if anyone else has!

I swear he thinks he's one of those fainting goats or something ROFL

If this is his "thing" to do out of fear, I'm worried his owners gonna get hurt on this screwball eventually or is this something I have been lucky enough not to deal with? When Shah gets scared he turns into a rodeo horse and when Dollar gets scared he takes one quick step and then turns and looks at what ever got him to begin with so I've never seen one basically FAINT!!

Comments please LOL

i have never heard of this but he must get so scared (scared stiff) that he stiffens up to the point he cant balence

has anyone tried riding him on through or distracting his attention??

maybe it will be something he will grow out of (hopefully)

well, I think they would ride him thru it if it wasn't for the fact that he will literally be walking see a deer and BAM hes on his side before even the riders seen the deer LMAO

And yes he is STIFF as a board, like a statue! I'm telling ya, it's the weirdest thing I have ever known a horse to do. Surely someone has heard of it? If not she needs to video it and send it somewhere!

We had a 3 y/o OTT gelding who was somewhat like that.
The day we went to pick him up, he refused to go into the trailer. Eventually after about an hour of coaxing, he totally lost it and fell over, shaking uncontrollably, and wouldn't get back up.

really? too wierd! This little loon isn't shaking though which I'd expect if he was scared! It's like he's playing possum so the horse eating deer won't see him then pops back up and be bops on down the trail LOL

He is a TOTAL spook though even in the pasture. If you come around the barn and surprise him, he can be 3 acres away in no time flat and only then will he stop and see what the big deal was!
