Exclamation Horse Excema?

I think that Daisy might have excema between her front legs... It started out as some small flakey chunks of almost wart like areas and its spreading... when you scratch it it just flakes off like dry skin and sometimes hair comes with it. I was told it is likely excema. Has anyone else experienced something like this? She also has a little patch near her hock... Ill try to get pictures... Right now we are putting Hypataine (sp?) cream on it. It really just looks like patches of dry, dead skin. Thanks for the help in advance!

Pictures would be good...could it be a mild case of mud fever?? I think I know what you are talking about...my horses have it too. My vet thought it might be mud fever...I know i'm not a vet but its definitely NOT mud fever. They aren't bothered by it at all. Its sort of makes the hair stick together and when you scratch it, it falls out quite eaily. Does it sound like this?

That sounds exactly what I found on my horse's back leg today! When you scratch it, hair and dead skin cells fall off really easily and it is just in the one spot. All Ive done so far is wash it with antibacterial soap. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to put on it? He's not bothered at all, but was really enjoying me scratching it lol

All our horses had that last year, and we put some antibacterial stuff on it and grommed them in those spots as much as we could! After a week, it was all gone! Sorry, don't have great advice on this, but that's what we did and it worked!

I'll put undiluted betadine on it to get rid of it if I have a comp coming up. Otherwise I leave it...I've had my vet look at it and she didn't even know what it was (scary huh?) one of my instructors horses also has it and she says its fine...BUT, if anyone can shed some light that'd be great!

if its on the lower part of the back legs toward the front of the cannon- it can be from Pee splashing - if its flakey on the neck - back or shoulders - and looks like sunburn peeling thru skin but not clumpy- that can be fly spray burn(aloe juice works on this) if its on their backs and rumps and they duck down from pressure - and its heavy thick scabbing with clumps of skin and hair it can be rain rot.For any BUT the fly spray burn - listerene (the mouth wash) works good. You can also mix mineral oil with Betadine and spray it on the lower legs to soften the scabs and kill the fungus.
