too long of a story to tell, but it was a really stupid very BLONDE thing i did, when i realized what a mistake i had make the money was already in africa, the people said they needed the money for shipping and sp stupid me i sent it!! later they e mailed me and said that one of there shippers was hurt and needed more money, buy that time i had realized what i did and told them some nasty thing, said they were lucky that they got that much, but no more will be sent. i feel so stupid when i think about it now, but i have helped a lot of other people not get taken!! it was a hard hit to my bank account, but i made up with it later!!

The Nigerian Scam. Very Popular!!

I've never had a bad experience, but watched others get into one.

One lady a few weeks back wanted a pony for her daughter. She went and fell in love. But SMART as she was, she asked the school for advice. They said a senior equine student would be glad to go. Well, she got 2. Me and Tanya. We go, look over the pony. My friend was like OK, great. Till I pointed to the feet. Then jaw dropped told the lady to grab her money and RUN. All 4 feet were FLAT. Didn't look like any angle I've ever seen. I can BET That pony was doped up. Cute pony, sad though. I pointed her to a friend of mine who has a horse that she might be interested in. Last I heard, I think she bought it.

When In doubt, TAKE A FRIEND.

Even I get second opinions. I will fall in love with ahorse, and miss the little tale tell signs I really need to be looking at.

Another friend will see those signs. And point them to you and you can have someone to bounce off the good/bad points of the horse with.

When the owner refuses to ride the horse before you do you know there is something wrong!!! I Learnt that the hard way... I don't know what I was thinking...

Wow! There is certainly a lot to watch out for. I have heard from experienced horse owners terrible things such as teeth being filed down to make horses seem younger and even horses hair being dyed to make them more of a desirable colour. I think a second or even third opinion is the best option.

Check the horse over for shots! We bought a horse once that did everything right. When we got home we noticed a place where he had a shot recently. THey gave him bute! The horse had been lame for some time and later had to be put down. So be careful. If you can have a vet go with you take one!

I currently have a horse for sale on Dream Horse. I was very honest about her being green broke & when someone comes to look at her, I will ride her for them. I will NOT take the chance of putting a stranger on my green horse even though she won't buck, never has. She wants to run the second you mount, but can easily be brought under control. I worry about people thinking I'm trying to sell a bad horse because of all the stupid people out there NOT being honest about their BAD horses. April is so very sweet & I pray she will end up in a good home. Good luck in your search. I hope you end up with your dream horse.

Well, I bought a QH for my hubby once. $1500. She wasn't registered. She was big (to me) around 15.3 hands. He said she was the best horse he had, would do anything you asked her to, very calm and gentle. I rode her, she didn't go fast at all, like to stay at a walk and trot, which is what we wanted. we brought her home, rode her around, thought she was pretty nice. Well, we took her to the Natchez Trace. She did ok, she was afraid if the mud and water, so she would fly over them, which f.reaked hubby out. So we turned around and headed back. A tree hit her on the stomach, she jumped up, and hubby fell off. We decided to sell her. Not as calm as he said she was. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention I was riding her in an open show, at a walk, she stumbled and started bucking? Yeah, I came off. Anyway, we ended up trading her for Buffy, best deal we ever made. The lady that bought her, sold her to another lady because the QH was "too small" for her. Anyway... I will only buy horses from people now who are either breeders, or, families wanting to sell their pet to a good home...

I think the most common trick is to have a lame horse on bute. When you get it home and the bute wears off, you have a lame horse. The bill of sale states as is and the seller tells you you hurt the horse hauling it.

I always ask the Vet to pull blood during the Vet check. If the seller asks why, I reply for drug test. If the seller objects, we walk.

I like to look at a horse and then go back unannounced and look again(Just happened to be in the neigborhood). I want to see the horse caught, saddled and riden. I am not really interested if I can ride the horse. I want to know if THEY can ride it and how much THEY know.

I like to 'pop' a horse on the neck like the Vet does before he gives it a shot. I want to see if the horse flinches in preperation of a needle. He may have had one in him just before I arrived.

That said, I buy my horses from a breeder. I spend more time doing than un-doing.
I did buy Cutter sight unseen. A good friend reccommended him.
