horse boots, any experience???

Hi,

I am starting to train my horse to drive, but there is a problem. His hooves have worn down too much on the roads. My friend says shoe them, but I would rather not. I am inclined to get the easy boots for my horse.

Can anyone offer advice on this?

Thanks,

Ivy

I've had the same pair of Old Macs for 3 years now. They work wonderfully for me any my horses. We ride on rocky trails in the mountains. I've never even had one fall off. Plus, they are easy to get on.

Putting boots on your horse like easy boots would be better than just shoeing him because the boots will help cushon the impact from the road more than just shoes. Plus, they offer more traction.

What has your experience been with them? Do they last? Do they last on asphalt with lots of driving?

I have a standardbred. Also his feet are wider than they are long. They said that the Easyboot Epic would not work well at all. Any comments on that?

Thanks,

Ivy

Its hard to say how long theyll last because of the factors of weight and gait. Some Horses are way harder on the boots than others... Weve had our Bares for a solid year, and they have worn very little under frequent use on both gravel roads and asphalt. Before that it was Old Macs, which lasted almost three years under heavy use. Are Mr. Standardbreds toe angles low? If he has really odd shaped hooves you may want to consider having a professional booter like me to fit him for boots. Swiss Horse Boots can be fitted to odd hooves well by a trained fitter, and last for quite awhile under heavy use. Epics can be "Adjusted" To accommodate wider shorter lower hooforms by a booter who knows what thier doing, and will work very well. You may consider Marquis Boots... Ive had good luck fitting them to shorter wider hooves... Some Horses just cant wear stock boots, but stock boots can be made to fit them well with properly made modifications.

I bought Boa boots about two years ago when my first started going barefoot. I would use them on trails and they worked great. Now Willeys feet are pretty tough. If i was going to do over i would buy the Old Mac's, a few of my friends have them and they are so much easier to get on and off then the boas. The take a little longer to do all the straps but its better then torn off fingernails! As far as wear, i dont know how well they would wear on roads

I have used Old Mac's G2s and liked them. I am considering trying EasyBoot Bares if I need to buy anymore. I like the fact that they are flexible, but still sturdy.
