Unhappy horse behavior

okay well, my new horse, Andi, plays too much with his nuckets in his stall....he has two water buckets and a feed bucket, we now take the feed bucket out and he has already broken two water buckets...he bites down on the top of the nicket then pulls back really hard...he isnt cribbing but its just a pain....and his teeth are a little crooked i think because of the way he plays with his buckets...is there anything i do to stop him? and i dont want to take his water buckets out because he drinks alot...and i have put a jolly ball and some lik its and a salt like and it occupies him for like two seconds then hes off to his buckets...any suggestions?:confuse d:

Any chance where you board could install a automatic water'er? Or however you'd say it!

They make a ball that is also a treat. It's a hard ball of molasses and something else. Maybe try that, since it has more taste than a rubber jolly ball.

I've had a few horses who rip up their buckets, I had a horse that if I was a minute late with dinner, would fling his buckets at us

The easiest way is to remove buckets from his stall and put the buckets outside the stall where he can obviously reach them. They can drink and play just a bit, but can't tear them up.

By the sounds of it the horse maybe bored and have found some relieve by playing with his bucket etc. Enough working sessions fill with things to do should curve some of this behavior and help with burning off any pent up extra energy.

I hope this insight helps.

Believe me, horses "find" their buckets real quick.

It is partially boredom, but it also becomes a bad habit real quick. I've had horses I've picked up and first thing they do is rip up the buckets.

I worked in one barn ALL the buckets were outside the stalls even IF the horses didn't play with them.
