horse ad question

Sorry for another dumb question but I saw a horse ad and wanted to know what this means, "sound and ready for any pleasure job on the flat. "

Hmmmm....in this context

It means the horse is fit, healthy, doesnt have any health problems, and is able to be ridden on the flat straight away..

However....why does it say on the flat? That wording sounds to me like this horse may have some soundness issues with jumping?

Anyone else get that feeling?

Also the use of the word pleasure to me is a little offputting....to me it means this horse is only good for gentle trail rides, or gentle riding in general....

Hmmmm, I am naturally overly suspicious of the wording of adds, and read alot into them...

Maybe Im wrong

Maybe Dressage, but the horse could be really green and not quite ready for jumping. When you found this horse what was the search criteria you were looking for?

Thanks for help! Here is the ad (he is a horse up for adoption)

1998 TB gelding, gorgeous black bay, 16 hands (measured), great breeding, by Foxtrail and out of Make a Ruckus, good manners, Jockey Club reg# 35135, knows leads, easily trained, respects your space, confident, the barn clown, very funny boy, loads, good with vet/shots, likes people, good alone, comes when called, large boned, likes to run, good with other horses, cross ties, clips, bathes, sensitive feet (like most TB's), quiet in stall, easy keeper, sound and ready for any pleasure job on the flat.

I think if i remember correctly he is now retired from the track so I'm guessing he's only for "light riding"?? Would "pleasure job on the flat" mean light riding?

Thanks again!

Hmmmmmm.............call me overly negative, but it still sounds a little odd to me.....

Most retired race horses are capable just about anything, eventing, showjumping, lots of hard and fast work.....so why is this one for light riding only, on the flat only...

I have no idea really. I've never heard the saying "on the flat" before. His feet must be really really sensitive. Maybe their just leaving lots of info out. Anyway thanks for the help!

My interpretations.

1998 TB gelding, gorgeous black bay, when rugged and out of sun, a horse is either black or bay, never seen a blackbay myself

16 hands (measured), we had to measure to find out, he was tall!

great breeding, by Foxtrail and out of Make a Ruckus, Will this breeding make him a better horse for what you want

good manners, would you even look if they said he kicks and bites

Jockey Club reg# 35135, means nothing unless you want to race him

knows leads, so it should if it is a riding horse

easily trained, what for? racing?

respects your space, he is standoffish to handle

confident, never stops when confronted he doesn't know

the barn clown, Pain in the butt, leave a rake against the wall and he can have it on the ground in 2 seconds. unties all the leadropes

very funny boy, we thought so when he shied when the rake hit him in the head

loads, loads of what. cow poo?

good with vet/shots, well the vet has not refused to attend him again and with his injury rate that is good

likes people, People keep him entertained.

good alone, we prefer riding him alone, he has a vixcious side kick

comes when called, amazing what a feed bin in hand does

large boned, chunky fella and a bit off looking, not elegant

likes to run, well you won't be able to blame us for not telling you when he bolts

good with other horses, Once he has them too terrified to come within reach

cross ties, with a bin full of feed in front of him

clips, only takes 2 shots of ace

bathes, just don't try to wash his face

sensitive feet (like most TB's), BIG farrier bills

quiet in stall, with another feed bin full

easy keeper, you don't need to give him much after all the other feed bins full already mentioned

sound and ready for any pleasure job on the flat. He has done a tendon and will never be sound enough to jump. Treat him gently, ride him once a year and he should be fine.

I think I have read too many ads and looked at tooo many horses for sale in my time.
