My mum would slap me with her hand... and then if she broke a nail, she'd get super angry that she broke a nail and grab a wooden spoon, which she would literally thrash like **** with.... usually breaking the wooden spoon. Which would anger her even more, and she'd rip "the jug cord" as we called it from the wall. We had an electric kettle that had an electrical cord that went from the kettle to the wall socket (as do most electrical appliances of course), this one actually detached from the kettle too, so you could take the kettle to the sink and stuff. She would rip the jug cord out of the kettle and wall and take to you, whipping you to with it like crazy.
Would end up with welts up and down legs, back, arms, chest, stomach, wherever she bothered whipping.

But my mum went overboard. She would do that for the most MINOR of infractions. I grew up being the kind of person who was too scared to leave my bedroom for fear I'd upset my mother and evoke her fury...

I guess there is always the two extremes. Too much getting beaten.... and not enough.

My mom used to use the skillet cord and she still denies it to this day lol!! There are things that are going over board but I look at raising kids just like horses you get the respect down first be as soft as possible but firm as need be. Nip it in the butt from the get go and then you don't have 10 yrs old sayin f-off and doing whatever they want not listening

Doesn't matter, you can still buy them on any Indian Reservation. They are not illegal on the Res. All the people I know buy their fireworks there because they have the giant illegal ones that make the most WOW effects. Ie: M100's and such and aeral mortors.

Personally I think fireworks should be BANNED period. We have way too many fires here caused by them and where I live it's SO dry.

This is a sad, sad situation. I feel for horse and the little girl. If her brother doesn't righten out he's gonna find himself in jail real quick.

I actually got attacked by illegal firecrackers when I was three.
My brother got a hold of some and was setting them alight outside, it was a cold winters night. I walked outside, it was so cold, I was wearing a singlet, skivvy, jumper and a thick coat. The firecracker didn't work properly, it caught let, but sort of just bounced around a bit, straight into my jacket where it set my jacket on fire. Coz the outer part of the jacket was polyester stuff to protect from rain, the firecracker melted to it, keeping the heat there. It burned through all the layers of my clothing and onto my skin.

It wasn't HUGELY serious, they got my clothes off in time and took me to hospital, now I have a scar about an inch or so high, and half an inch wide on my chest, but **** scary all the same.

And fireworks were illegal here at the time, but someone still sold them to my brothers.

Oh. My. God. I almost cried when I read this. What a sad, sad, story. Poor horse. Poor little girl. I want to kick that little f***er in the balls and go from there. I wouldn't let him anywhere *near* my horses again, so 'working it off' is out. Send his *** to juvie for a little while.

Good for her!
I have to say something though and please don't think I'm taking up for the little snot because that's far from the truth. Now, if the mother was belittling him in front of everybody like that, telling him he's a worthless piece of ****, it's all his father's fault, etc...Can you imagine what this kid hears at home? Maybe little sis gets all the positive attention and he gets nothing but put downs and blame for everything that goes wrong. He may be jealous and just wants mom to notice him for a change.
I personally know kids like that and they will do anything, good or bad, to get someone to notice, to pay attention. This young man obviously needs help and as long as mom is telling him he's worthless, he will ACT worthless, proving her right. He does need to be punished for what he did, absolutely, but I can't help but think he gets punished with disapproval at home quite a bit, and from his own mother, who obviously hates the boy's father so she takes it out on the kid because he reminds her of the father.

As I said, I am in no way, shape or form defending the kid's actions as that is absolutely inexcusable and disgusting. He does need some help, quickly, before he turns into a psychopathic sociopath.
