Post Hooves in the snow.

horse_on I was just wondering, around my horses coranary band there is a layer of something peeling, as well as the ball of his hoof id very moist ans soft. He is out in the snow, and has no shoes or pads, is this normal?

There will be wearing of the cornet band. When the hoof is rasp, it usually takes care of the top of the hoof wall. It does get old.

When was the last time your horse was trimmed?

The frog should be soft. If it is too hard, then it's dying. Hooves are like Rubber. reacts different in cold, heat, mosture, and dryness.

I would have to say its normal Star. My horses do it too in the wintertime. They are out 24/7. They're hooves are done about every 8 weeks in the wintertime and they both have healthy hooves.
So I dont think its anything to worry about. My farrier has no worries about it.
