Post hooves

i have a question about hooves. do hooves grow faster in the summer and then slow down in the winter? because when i got Fiona after her first visit w/ my farrier she needed another visit after 4 weeks. then in the fall she needed a visit after 5-6 weeks. her winter visit came up and my farrier said her hooves hadnt grown enough to need a trimmimg and her shoes werent worn down to need new ones so we're waiting till January 1st for the farrier again. and i checked Fiona's hooves just the other day and i can still see the heel of the shoes and the toes havent come ober the shoe either. do hooves grow fast in the summer and slow in the winter? or does it depend on the horse? i wasnt there the last time the farrier was so i couldnt ask him.

Yes hooves to slow their growth in the colder months. My farrier visits get spread out from the normal every 6-8 weeks to 8-10 weeks in the wintertime. If you observe your horse's feet when 6-8 weeks is past in the winter, you will notice that they dont look like they do after 6-8 weeks in the summertime. They grow much slower in the winter. Its nice....less times to stand in the cold with the farrier! hehe applaud woot!

Fiona already had one very bad home(when she was shipped for training) and i dont want her to have to live any experience like that again.
