The Absorbine polish bottle claims it can be removed with liniment, but I can tell you from experience, it doesn't come off easily. Nail polish remover works, but make sure you rinse the remover off afterward since it contains alcohol, which is drying. I would follow up with a moisturizing hoof cream. (Kinda like doing your own fingernail manicure! ha)

You put hoof polish on and it comes off on its own...most ppl dont want to take it off...its nutrition for ur horses hooves. if u try to take it off it wont work. is there a reason y u want it off? wat brand do u use?

I was under the impression that hoof polish doesn't moisturize the hooves at all, it just makes them shiny for showing. I wouldn't use it unless it was for a show, but that's also because it's a pain to put it on and wait for it to dry, I would use a hoof conditioner if you want to moisturize.

As far as I know, it does just wear off in about a week or so, I guess if you want to take it off sooner most of the suggestions above would work. If you put it on the coronary band, I would try to take it off sooner than later because you don't want it sealed.

I think it is known to be drying because it prevents the hoof from getting any moisture from the environment, I would moisturize after I used it...

Clear/ black polish isnt a moisturizer, other than trapping moisture which can be a bad thing. There is polish remover, or nail polish remover works. Hoof polish is a glorified polish/ plastic. Id use a hoof cream after taking the stuff off, and not turpentine or pine tar based, those also are drying. Use something like rainmaker or hoofmaker. I used to use clear polish on Raps for shows, and then do hoof triage after, b/c he had a bad toe crack that I did Not want to aggravate. Altho on Dry summers I sometimes put clear polish on him below the coronet TO trap moisture, so his feet didnt crack up from stamping.

i let it wear off since i show almost every weekend in the summer and it gets reapplied quite often. You can buy remover, but it doesnt work very well. Last time i applied it was October and it is all gone now and has been for quite a while...just make sure the hoof stays moisterized

Yeah...polishes will wear off in time and do nothing for the foot except maybe block in some moisture. I wouldn't worry about the actual polish itself but practice good hoof care before and after polishing. Just be careful b/c some hoof conditioners are oily and might prevent the polish from adhering properly to use caution on show days. A sneaky trick may be to avoid the coronet band when polishing and then you can apply the conditioner there after the show until the polish wears off the whole hoof. Many people don't even bother covering the rest of the hoof with conditioner, but I like to hit the hoof wall every now and then to moisturize it (just a mental gratification).
