| Senior Member+ | Hoof help. Really frustrated.
Ok, let me start off with this. i am really unhappy about the entire issues, not just that but none of it is my farrier's fault. Just clearing that up right away here. It started a few months ago. My BO asked if i wants Poco done, she was getting the farrier out because her's needed it a bit sooner, i decided to wait for the next 3 to 4 weeks for her trim. No biggie right? Me and my FB decided to wait and one of my BO's horses was on the wait as well, no problem at all. Im under the assumption that it was arranged for the farrier to come out in 2-3 weeks to trim them. Well those weeks come and go, no farrier. I ask my BO, she said she thought he was scheduled, so i called him. Took me a week to get ahold of him. I think its because he didnt have my number at the time because now he answers if not right away then withing a day. I asked him and he said he was under the impression that we were supposed to call and set up the appt with him. OK just a misunderstanding. Took me another week to get the appt because he was filled at the time. By the time he got out she was 2 weeks over due. Ok no biggie got her trimmed all good to go. about 4 weeks go by and my FB was supposed to get him out to put shoes on her mare. She asked me if I wanted poco trimmed. Told me that he would put on the shoes and come back in two weeks. I decided to wait. Asked her a couple weeks later as well as my BO. turned out he was out and they forgot to let me know. ok by that time the christmas season really started. i I started asking my BO when can he come out. I figure her's are about due. She said after a bit she would call him, i said great I would do it myself but I couldnt guarentee that i could get out. I know Poco stands perfect but i believe it is just rude to expect him to do it alone, not to mention Im there to prevent Poco from molesting my farrier's butt. A couple weeks go by, no call to the farrier, i ask and she said right on it, a couple more weeks, she had completly forgotten. Saw poco's hooves and appologised profusly. Asked the other day said she couldnt get ahold of him. so i called him, he answered on the 3rd ring talked to him a bit. my BO then got ahold of him and I now find out that the soonest Poco can be done is the 9th. She is officially 2 trims over due, and the 9th would make it 2 and a half to 3 trims over due and I am NOT HAPPY. Poco's hooves are great, they are flaring but are retaining their shape however when poco flares she also toes out Thats my line of action now, no riding and ground work only. ground work is alright, right? anything else I should watch out for? ps: no I dont know of any other farrier around here that could get here sooner, though of you do let me know, I do not have a problem paying them then paying my farrier to touch up when he comes out on the 9th. Im in Montgomery, AL and my mare is in Eclectic AL.

Hopefully you've learned to get the farrier to write *you* in his appointment book for an appropriate next visit Depends on what "groundwork" you mean. Lunging, no. Manners, sure. Yielding to pressure over/under/between/around things, forwards and backwards, sure

Dont I know it! What a frustrating lesson to learn. She was on regular auto schedule, but since my BO was doing hers a couple weeks early she asked me if I wanted to or not. Next time i think I'll just give the go ahead instead of having this long reaching hassle.

I LOVE my farrier lol he figures out what schedule each horse should be on and just calls you the day before to tell you he's coming to make sure the horse will be there, you don't have to be just the horse. It's very nice lol
