Question Hoof Dressings

Are there any out there that actually work good? If so what kind? I want a kind that will strengthen the hoof and keep it from cracking.

No amount of topical dressing will prevent cracks and strengthen the hoof if the underlying trim isn't right. Unbalanced feet cause cracks and weak walls.

Im talking about prevention. My farrier is very well known and trusted, my horses feet are fine. but alot people use hoof dressings when their horses feet are fine. I was wondering if im missing something.

i use rainmaker occasionally. Sometimes buddys feet look dry around his coronary band and it seems like they are flaking a bit so i put it on all around his coronary band and into his hairline and on the back of his hoof like right where the frog comes up.. if that makes sense. it smells like weird BBQ though

Rainmaker works good, but Miracle absolutely hates the smell and throws a tantrum (wont stand still) when I'm trying to apply it. So now I use Hooflex, which is scentless and it works just as well. But if it's really not needed and there aren't any problems, then don't buy it. Lol you're not missing out on anything special :P

i dont think its a waste on some horses. some horses hooves flake off no matter what u feed them, just like people and their nails. I think it keeps their hooves nice and having a good shine to them

I have to agree, and to think I sell all of this in my store and usually will not recommend it. If you are looking for an alternative for protection when you show (instead of hoof black or clear) I have had good luck with a product called Tuff Stuff by Mustad.

I use Tuff Stuff as a "hoof dressing" for shows. Gives it a nice shine, and it's not drying like most hoof dressings.
