Hoof critiques please...

Now that my Photobucket account is FINALLY back up... anybody feel like critiquing? Please be brutally honest. Really.

Lacy:

Classy (still in recovery obviously):

Thank you!!!

Lacy's feet are looking good, but there is some flaring going on in the quarters on the hinds and a bit on the fronts.

Classy's feet are flared pretty good but it will be a while before it all grows out... however, once again, there is flaring in the quarters (especially on the hinds) that could be dealt with right now.

Think removing from the top and adding a bit of a scoop from the bottom.
Anything on the outside of the red line should be removed from the top (same goes for other hooves with the same deal) (pic 1).

The blue line shows the area where a bit of a scoop should be applied (hoofwall vertical height from sole... rasp this down a little bit. This will eliminate the cracks in the hoofwall) (yes I know I didn't use the same hoof... but it's virtually the exact same thing for any hoof).

Aside from the flaring in the quarters, they look pretty healthy. Really nice frogs.

Thank you! :-)

Yeah Lace has got some amazing frogs doesn't she? LOL!

I too have noticed the flaring. Part of the problem I think is that we are being forced to go 5 weeks (verrrry busy person). When we were doing 3, the flaring wasn't ever as bad. I do get very frustrated with her not taking these flares in from the sides though. Sometimes I want to just go back and do it myself, but alas I am just not confident enough. She decided to be a bit "more aggressive" this time because their feet are growing so fast this time of year. I think it has been a bit of a trial since switching to her so that she can figure out their growth patterns. She tends to err on the side of caution. It does frustrate me though. I am glad she got more aggressive this time, and I wish she would do even more.

In particular, Lace's left hind really troubles me. We can't seem to get rid of that flare (it's by far her worst). I used to think she was doing all she could and it would just eventually grow out, but I am not so sure now. The flare is virtually all the way up to the healing plane, which means we'll never get rid of it unless the get the torque off somehow. As I said, I used to think it was working, but this time in particular I could see where she could have done more:

It's pretty clear some of that could have been taken from the outside. Isn't it?

So yeah...

Anyone else? :-)

I would say that both Lacy and Classy have some flaring at the toe, and also long, underrun heels. I'll be interested to hear what some other people have to say, because I'm not experienced at hoof critiques by ANY stretch!

Wow... I don't see either of those things... but I could be the one that's wrong.

Other than the flare I think they look good! I see that she has some small rim cracks and have you used any supps to help build the hoof wall from the inside out?

You very likely have a better eye than I do, so you could be right.

Well I suspect it has more to do with my hand than my eyes. I've actually touched these hooves. LOL! No matter how good the photos, nothing is as good as hands on.
