| Senior Member | I've never had a critique on Tucker's hooves before and I'd like one because tommorrow we have an appointment with a new farrier. I didn't like the work our old one did AT ALL! Tucker's shoes were consistantly coming loose and he was throwing them and the farrier never really fixed or tried to fix any of the problems with Tuck's feet. I will post new pics of his feet tommorrow to see if there is a difference. But for now, I'd just like a critique on these... Whole Body Shot Left Front Right Front Fronts Left Hind Right Hind

I'm not going to go in depth because goodness knows I'm not qualified and I don't need a 10 page rant to tell me so. But what I see from these pictures (having sole shots makes it easier to tell what you're dealing with) is long heels and jammed quarters on the fronts. With some flaring at least in the quarters. In the hinds, a bullnose profile with uneven heels. And quite a bit of flaring on the outside quarter of the right foot. |

There's flaring about 2/3 the way down, but without knowing how things looked 6 months ago it's hard to say whether it's being adequately addressed. If that flare continues to get smaller with each trim, as it grows down, then it's being addressed. The M/L balance looks pretty ok. Quote:
I don't see a bullnose profile as much as I see toes worn off. It looks like the horse wasn't standing with vertical cannon bones in the LH side shot, which makes it a little hard to see the HPA. The chip out of the quarter is most likely due to a flare. The front view makes it a little hard to tell any more about that, as I can't tell if the little flare is because the chunk was torn outwards, or if that's the flare that's remaining. The toe cracks are something to look at, and it may simply mean the walls need to be rolled some more. The medial wall is higher than the lateral, likely having some effect on causing the lateral flaring. Quote:
