Okay... gotta make a decision here and I just don't know what to choose: Absorbine Hoof Polish - which is essentially nail polish for horses, very black, very shiny, very time-tested.... and doesn't really come off until it's good and ready. ![]() Fiebing's Hoof Black - basically hoof dye, supposedly all natural and comes off with soap and water. Well clearly one is probably "healthier" than another... but in the dog-eat-dog world of competitive horse showing... which is going to give me the best possible (and durable) result? Which looks/works better ?? |

I like the Absorbine Hoof black. One thing about it, it won't come off and there hooves look really pretty. Unless you have white hooves then I prefer the clear. Ohhh and a pair of gloves and a dry place to stand

The feibings will come off naturally. By the afternoon you have to re-apply. Wet long grass will take it off very quickly and go onto horse's legs. If you are in an indoor show I'd go with the feibings though and if youre out doors the Absorbine

I prefer Ultra but will & have used Absorbine & Farnam's Grand Champion....but I try to always use Ultra Hoof Polish Enhancer on top no matter what brand (or color) I use!

I have used Absorbine for awhile, Ive used ultra and farnams grand champion too. They all work good. I personally wouldnt use fiebings, but when I show its an all day thing.

Ahh... good to know that it's *that* water soluble. We show outdoors mainly - and the footing in the early morning is dewy and sometimes the sand is damp/wet. If wet grass will take it off, I'm sure wet sand will do it even more effectively. | |

I agree with Sandra. I really like Ultra as well. I got the Fiebings because I wanted to see what my horse's dark hoof would look like when blacked... I didn't like it all that much and all I needed was water... NO SOAP I always use with the Ultra Hoof Polish Enhancer (which is pretty much spraypaint) or Glossy Krylon (spraypaint) over all four feet... it makes the blacked feet nice and shiny and the white's are glossy too
