Hoof Black

I have never been able to get hoof black right.

For years I have used Blackit Enamel (which I know is not good for the horses feet).

However it seems they always end up dusty and horrible looking before I even enter the ring.

Can any Aussies (so I can buy the stuff) recommend anything they use, that produces brilliant results, and is not harmful to the hoof.

My favorite brand for hoof black is Absorbine Supershine Hoof Polish. It is very shiny, dries quickly (so dirt doesn't have a chance to stick to it), it's better for their hooves than Blackit Enamel, & it's relatively long lasting, but not permanent. I'm not sure if you have Absorbine in Australia, but if you do, I would highly recommend this stuff.

Give it a coat of hairspray just before you go into the ring. It'll get rid of dust and give it a good shine which will last for awhile.

I second SuzQuzie's suggestion. It has a great applicator and dries shiny. The hairspray also helps too. Just remember to give the hooves a wipe with a rag just before entering the ring.

Before you put the polish on, use a peper towel to aply some black shoe polish, it creates a base so that the polish is easier to get off and doesn't soak into the hoof.
