Wink Honest Critique, Please!

Hello, I am new to this forum, and somewhat new to horses. I have only been riding for about 3 years. The first two years involved me riding my deadbroke paint around in fields and on trails, usually by myself. Now I have a new horse, and we have been going to local open and breed shows this summer. Showing is a very new concept for me, but it's really fun! I bought my horse from a girl who had been showing him in various youth events. He has been shown his whole life, so he is an all-around been there, done that show horse. He is a 10-year old red roan Appaloosa gelding, and I am learning a lot from him. I would like anyone to please give an honest critique of my horse doing western pleasure. These pics were taken at my first few shows ever! Please don't feel the need to critique me too much, that's what I pay my trainer to do! I know I am a far cry from being the perfect rider, but remember I am still learning. Also, I tend to get nervous at shows, which may affect my ride. I don't know much about what judges are looking for, etc. Any insight would be helpful! So, what do you think of my horse? Thanks in advance!

...and a halter pic just for fun...

I don't show WP but I'm fairly sure that I read an article about how WP horses will now be penalized if their poll is below their withers, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that yall look like a beautiful team and he seems to be enjoying his job.

I don' t know much about WP either, but you are both really snazzy looking. I love your outfit. One thing I can say is that I am very pleased that he has such nice feet. I have seen lots of western horses with hockey pucks for feet and his look nice an big!

good luck!

True, in th rule book ear tips below the withers is a no, no however....almost all of the horses in the ring will be going with ear tips below the withers....*shakes head*

Welcome to the wonderful world of showing!! I think you guys look great! Your horse is very cute! What is his pedigree?

I was just going to say his headset looks good, at the shows in my area, low headsets like that usually win the class. He looks very relaxed, and a nice looking western mount, not to rant, but its annoying when people by these "englishy" horses and do western with them! it just doesn't look right and they're not using their horses in something that they would really excell at!! I like your color choice for an outfit too, complements his color, cool pics! looks fun

Hey, I know an englishy horse that does really well in western. In fact he can do just about everything. Now granted not every horse can do that but why not do all around if the horse is capalbe. Oh and when I mean really well I mean placing at worlds and nationals in all kinds of events.

Oh my gosh, thank you everyone for all the kind words you have to say about my horse! Rusty's show name is "Rhythm N Zip," and his sire is "Unzipped," with his grandsire being the great "Zippo Pine Bar." I have an excellent farrier who keeps Rusty's feet in tip-top shape. Thanks for all the compliments about my outfit...my non-horsey friends see pics of me at horse shows and make fun of me... I guess to the casual observer I do look pretty silly! The girl who owned him before me showed him as an all-around mount, including some english riding. However I have no experience riding hunt seat at all. I had a couple of lessons where my instructor tried to teach me to post...I just can't get the hang of it! I love to watch the english classes though...the way the horses move is so beautiful. Rusty has also been trained in trail class, so that is what we have been working on lately. Again, thanks for being so nice...I thought I would get ripped apart for sure!
