Homozygous Paint X Snow Capp or few spot Appy

If you crossed a homozygous paint and a "homozygous" appaloosa (meaning a few spot or snow capp that has produced 100% color)

Would you be gaurenteed a pintaloosa coat? or would one ride over the other??? I was just curious... So figured I'd ask.. why not?

They are totally separate genes, no overriding. However, one pattern could cover up the other, depending on how extensive one is an how minimal the other is. For example, a maximally expressed Sabino will cover up whatever other pattern might be there. You can get a Tobiano (which is what I'm assuming you have, since you're talking homozygous) that is mostly white, and that can easily cover up any Appy spots. You can get an Appy that varnishes out to nearly white, and that will cover up most if not all of any pinto pattern.

Ah, my favorite topic! The answer is NO.
You will not be garenteed a pintaloosa pattern. You may end up with a foal with just appaloosa markings. You may end up with a foal with just paint markings. Or you will have a pintaloosa. There is no guarenteeing you will get a Class A horse (meaning they have BOTH pattern markings)

You're right, since one pattern could cover up the other. And this is the reason that pure appy and pure paint breeders NEVER cross one on the other - the risk of the other pattern showing up to mar their desired goal is too high.

I wasn't planning on crossing my appy.. I was just curious as the what the results would be...
Being as they are advertised as guarenteed color..

Years ago someone told me that they don't cross paints and apps because you seem to get a high percentage with nothing upstairs. I only ever met one, and he sure had a few screws loose, so I have always believed it.
