If they test positive for chestnut they are not eligible for approval. They are testing all stallion candidates prior to approval now. I don't remember the exact year they started testing.

They don't test the mares thought so mares can still be carriers. If you are hoping to produce a stallion candidate it is a very good idea to test the mare you plan on breeding first....many Friesian breeders don't.
