Like a homozygous black horse will always pass one copy of the black gene since he/she has two copies. Black is dominant, so if one copy gets passed it will show on the foal as black. Heterozygous means one of each. Like in a black horse that is heterozygous...he/she will have one copy of black an one copy of red. Black is dominant so the horse appears black, but can pass a red OR black gene.

Also a horse who is homozygous for cream will always have cream foals. A horse who is homozygous for dun will always have a dun foal. A horse that is homozygous for Agouti will always give the foal agouti.

A homozygous black horse could also be a bay... just to throw that out. ACC |

yup definitely as our homozygous black lad is in fact dark bay I guess if we wanted to guarantee true blacks we would need to breed two homozygous black agouti negative horses? exempt of other modifying factors I guess this is why Friesans are nearly always black? with very few exceptions? |

And yes, if you always wanted to have true black foals, you would have to breed two EEaa horses together that did not have gray, cream, or any other outside modifier.
