| Senior Member | Homeschooling.....myself??
Ok. This might sound a little strange, but I'm going to go for it. I'm probably going to be moving to Florida this summer. My mom would probably (if not, I could convince her) agree with whatever decision I make. She would technically be my "teacher",but I would do it by myself. I think that I want to homeschool myself. I will be in 11th grade next year. I do well in public school. I just feel like I could accomplish so much more by teaching myself. Spending seven hours in school, doesn't teach me as much as( I think) it should. Most topics come easily to me, so it seems like a waste to spend 40 minutes going over something I already know. The topics that are difficult for me, I end up learning on my own anyway. I really don't want to start public highschool as a 11th grader in a foreign school. I already have friends down there anyway.(They are all neighbors in the development) What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Feel free to ask any questions and try to back up you opinions.(If you know what I'm saying |

What are your plans for the future? Do you want to attend a University? You're almost done, I really would suggest sticking through the last of your High School time -- ESPECIALLY if college is something you want. I think with you moving, staying in a setting with people your age is crucial to your growth, personal developement into adulthood, and social life. If you don't feel you'll be challenged enough, take Honors Classes (which look great on a college app.) and attend a local Junior College and get started on your Associate's degree -- I wouldn't advocate homeschooling, but that's just my opinion

I don't think you're crazy (=P), however, I do agree with AllAroundRdr. However, my friend's are homeschooled (as am I, and I teach myself, it's really not very hard), and they go to community college, where they can transfer to real colleges after a year or two. My friend's brother got his Bachelor's degree when he was eighteen. Normally, I wouldn't agree with anyone suggesting not to, because I think homeschooling is great (more free time, easier to do it the way YOU want, blah, blah, blah), but since you're so close to being out of highschool it seems like it might be more difficult. Either way, I'm sure you'll figure it out and make the right choice. And either choice seems like it would be fine to me. Best of luck.

I think that it would be a great choice. You will be able to focus on your education, without being distracted by the social pressures of a new school. I transferred high school as a junior and honestly, it was very hard making social and academic adjustments during such a crucial year. It takes a lot of work to develop a coherent curriculum that would be equivalent to high school classes, but I'm sure that you can do it. One thing to consider, however, is if you want to take any AP classes. I took an online course at University of Miami Online High School, and I know they offer APs too. An alternative would be taking community college classes. However, if you are serious about heading to a great college, call over the summer when the admission reps have more free time, and see what they recommend you do as a homeschooler. You sound very motivated and as long as you are able to self-motivate, I think you will succeed.

Look for a high school or high school program that will give you credit for taking college courses. You may be able to "finish high school" by just taking college classes and getting high school credit.

Aww, you can do it. My older sister homeschooled herself thru the last 3 grades - and now she's in Graduate School!!

Yes, you can do it! I'm in 11th grade this year, and I homeschool myself. My mom checks my work about once a month, and helps me design courses. Other than that, I'm on my own. As for colleges, most will specially review a homeschooler's application. Most colleges LOVE homeschoolers because we tend to have a high academic standard. (we make the school look good) And as a homeschooler (not just a public highschooler) you can take Community college courses and again get the double credit. I am doing that, and I will have an associate's degree before I'm 19. I also plan on attending graduate school in the future.
