Homeschooling !

Hey guys,
Well this may been pretty dumb of me, but I have been noticing that alot of people here are homeschooled, and I think it is really cool.
I was just wondering why you guy/paretns decided to homeschool you. Do you like it? Do you still see your friends? Does one of your parents teach you?

Sorry about the questions

I do online schooling.

Yes, I still see my friends, just not at school. No, my parents don't teach me, it's the 'teachers' online, where I do most of my work. And I love it.

I was homeschooled K-12. My mom started homeschooling me when we where living in northern California and the schools there are in no way the greatest. We then moved to Colorado and she just kept at it. My dad worked while my mother stayed home and educated me and my younger sister and brother.

She would spend many long hours pouring over catalogs in order to select the best curriculum for us. I remember that I went through about 3 different math textbooks before I finally found one that I could learn from and wasn't confusing for me. See, I self taught myself almost entirely through middle and high school. My mom's teaching style bugged me so we finally worked it out so that she'd just give me the assignments and I'd go off and do them. But in order to do that I'd need a textbook that was informative enough that I could do that. Same thing went for English.

During high school I did go and take some extra curricular classes such as Art and Woods at the local high school. IMO that was a great experience for me, I was a VERY shy kid, and my freshman year I pretty much sat in the back corner and didn't say anything, by my senior year I was confident and able to speak comfortably to someone I didn't know. My Art teacher even commented on it, saying I went from "Saying 10 words in one year to not being able to shut up!" LOL He was awesome.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it because I didn't have to be up at a certain time, I could wear my PJs all day if I wanted to (and during the winter I frequently did). We were able to adjust my curriculum to ME and not to the rest of the class. I could learn at my own speed and if I fell behind it wasn't the end of the world. I was on my own schedule and could easily make it up.

And like my brother, he was an ACE at math in his elementry years, for some time he was a year ahead of all his peers.

Then, for those wondering, yes, we did have to go through testing. It is a state requirement in Colorado. You can homeschool, but they still want to see test scores. So every other year we'd get together with all the other homeschoolers in the area and do testings. It was just like a public school C-SAP.

I think it was great thing for me growing up! Sometimes I hated it, namely when my mom got on my nerves, but for the most part, I really enjoyed it. And I have consistently gotten above average scores on all standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT.

So, that's my experience. If anybody has any questions for me just hit me, I'm more than happy to answer

I do school on-line, I just started half way through the year last year, so did regular public school up to 10th...

The reason I switched over was because of scheduling with the horses, shows, etc. My BO was dealing with cancer at the time so I had to pick up the slack.

It really just gives you much more time and flexibility. However, the online schooling you have to be very self-disciplined, so you don't fall behind.

As far as friends, yes of course I see them, I saw them outside of school when I went to public anyway.

With the homeschooling I do we do both paper work and internet work, with the book work they send it all out to you via mail, and with the internet work they have a website where you do it all. It's quite easy really.

My mom has homeschooled me all my life until just a year ago dad started. Mom just goes online and buys math books and stuff that , what we are ready for and orders them. Then she explains to us how to do the math ect... and we do it. I really like homeschooling because we do "school" work almost every day of the year but only for 1-2 hours.

I am home schooled, have been my whole life, (I am a senior next year) we decided to home school because my father was in the military and we moved around a lot. it was easier to do than have me transfer to different schools every three years. plus I think when my mom was in school, she had a problem, every time her dad moved and she transferred to a school, they were studying the same stuff that her previous school was studying the year before. she wanted to avoid that with me.
