High Brow Cougar-Color

http://eeranches.com/highbrow.pdf

I saw this picture. What is he? This says he's just a sorrel. But there's something going on.

Is he a roan or is he roaning out? Or something different? He has a "squiggle" on his back too.

Rabicano, just like High Brow Cat. The "squiggle" looks a bit like "lacing", but is likely just part of the rabicano.

Rabicano roan. Completely different than true roan though.

So what does Rabicano mean? Is it anything like pinto in anyway? Like sabino is?

I would not call sabino a pinto pattern, but many do. Rabicano is kind of like sabino. It causes the roaning you see there and also a "skunk tail" which is when the tail gets white hairs on each side of the top.

I don't count it as roan or pinto. It's very different from everything else.

Here is a write up for you:

And another famous QH sire with it:

JMO, any gene that can cause big white patches leading up to an all white horse can be considered a pinto pattern. (referring to sabino)

Rabicano does not seem to cause any white other than the ticking and I've never seen it cause pink skin. I have also noticed that rabicano tails are usually striped:

Some people do not say rabicano is a pinto pattern, but it is one of the genes thrown in the "white patterning" group. Some people say the "white patterning genes are" tobiano, frame, splash, sabino and rabicano.

Funny you mention that he's just like his daddy, High Brow Cat, acc. Everytime I see a horse walk into the herd and he's got the "racoon tail" I say he's gotta be a High Brow Cat horse. And his box head, all the Cat babies have it. I am NOT knocking HBCat. I'd have one of his offspring in a heartbeat!!!! He's a heck of a sire.

Never seen it lead to a all white horse. However I've seen rabicano's which are heavily roaned, and not sabino roaning either. Rabicano was one of my favorite things to follow for a long time because we have so many horses who exibit from minimal to quite highly moderate form. The racoon tail is common, however does not happen in all rabicano's. I've thrown the tail "pattern" into different sections to help deal with that. It's fun to see how different it is on each horse. ACC gave a awesome example of the racoon tail.

When I said almost all white, I was referring to sabino.

Thanks for the compliment on the example. He's from my personal library. A horse I photographed myself. He is a VERY loud rabicano and his roaning is incredible. His tail is more obvious when she lets it grow out though. :-(
