Hi! New Member! ASB Owner

Hi There! my Name is Kristen. I am new to this forum, but not new to forums in general. I have a 10 year Reg. ASB. His name is Don't Worry's Legend. barn name: Legend. He's registered "liver Chestnut" but he is veryyy dark, in some light can pass as black. I just purchased him a little over a month ago. I guess you could say I "rescued" him. the lady that had him since nov of 08 left him in his stall, he never went out and she rode him like once a month if that. She was riding him in a huntseat saddle and she messed his withers up. The first few times i Rode him, i had no hope in him. However, the past two weeks WE have been doing GREAT! I am so confident that we will be ready for Show Season in May 2010. He used to show i heard from the people that owned him the first 9 years of his life in PA. He hadn't had his feet down in over a year. My ferriar was appauled when he found thrush in all 4 hoofs and one hoof starting to abcess. In just a month he has come a very long way! His feet are looking great, he's getting well balanced and i can ride him for 20 minutes without a sweat breaking. Anyways, You will see me around on here. I have been reading and it doesn't seem like there are many "saddleseat" riders on here, so I will have advice for those who need it. I also train horses, and give riding lessons. I managed a barn full of 21 arabs from 1996-2000. i got out of riding from about 2001-last month. I rode off and on, but wasn't into in it like I was before i was 17. Now I am 25 and my dream came true. i Own a 5 gaited american Saddlebred! This is my first ASB so I may have questions as well. Thanks! Cant wait to get to know you all!

Here are some pics.
This was the day I went and tried him out. Don't look at my posture or anything... He was being a complete brat. The lady had the whole double bridle set up wrong on him which is why he probably was flipping out and bucking ( i had no hope in him) (September 5th)

This was 2 nights ago (oct 13th). he goes much better in a half cheek driving snaffle (single bit)

These are from last night (Oct 14th) In the past two weeks I have taught him to set up everytime we stop, also taught him to pick up the canter straight from the walk, with no extra stride. he does it perfectly. Another problem I have corrected is him flipping around on me. I would be going to the left at trot and when we come around the bend he would flip to the right and NOT turn back around, but broke him of that in 3 days! I am so excited for show season!

Sorry they are so dark.i will get some better ones when i can.

My father was Saddlebred Trainer, and I grew up with them, and worked as Master Show Horse Groom. I love Saddlers, and just got done last night with post in Horse Chat on "They are all gone now" about the Saddlebred trainers I knew, who have left us, and the horses they were associated with.

If you want to see something interesting about a Saddlebred, go to search engine and type in The Lemon Drop Kid and Jay Utz, and read the article from the 50's where The Lemon Drop Kid was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Only horse ever on there, as far as I know. Wonderful article. Please read it.

Enjoy this, and keep us up to date on your beautiful Saddler.

Aww thank you soo much for the info. I will definitly read that article! I will have questions here adn there on them, so it would be GREAT if you could help! My first questions is, how do i use the braiding ribbon and put the braid in the forlock and piece of the mane? I dont get how they get it to stay in, i know it's braided in with the braid, but i have no clue how much hair to take up etc. THANKS!!!

Welcome to HGS!

Legend is beautiful! I have always been a sideline fan of Saddlebreds. My mom and I use to go to a local show years ago that featured 5-gaited saddlebreds. That started my love affair, but unfortunately, just not many people around here are involved with these lovely horses. Can you tell us more about Saddlebreds personalities, temperment, etc.?
