That started my love affair, but unfortunately, just not many people around here are involved with these lovely horses. Can you tell us more about Saddlebreds personalities, temperment, etc.?

i am still learning about them myself. this is the first one i have owned. But i have had a passion for saddlebreds and saddleseat horses for 10 years now. I used to ride and show hunt seat on a arab, but idolized my sister for riding and showing saddleseat on her arab. Finally i got a real saddleseat horse and i can't wait for show season. My ASB is hyper and had a great temprement. he likes to nip and bite thought, but i think that's mainly because the lady that used to own him abused him. I am working with him everyday. INthe past 2 weeks, i have gotten him to almost show shape! I can't wait for may!

Best of luck to you and your beautiful boy! Looking forward to many updates on yours and his progress. And, of course, more pictures please to show us your accomplishments (even if that just means a great relationship for many years!).

My first questions is, how do i use the braiding ribbon and put the braid in the forlock and piece of the mane? I dont get how they get it to stay in, i know it's braided in with the braid, but i have no clue how much hair to take up etc. THANKS!!!
divide your three sections and lay your ribbon at the scalp so the middle of the ribbon is in the center of your braid, start your french braid with the two ends of the ribbon starting on the outside and french braid it on down until your run out.

Clear as mud?

Welcome, I have a rescued NSH, which had a background in both of her breeds. I think she did halter and showing for years in Saddlebred classes. She sometimes sets up when I stop and it takes next to nothing to get her to start setting up when I am on the ground. I think then she was ridden mostly in arab cert classes, but was finally left out to pasture for 5 years without so much as a hint of human contact. I do dressage but have thought it would be neat to see what she can still do in Saddle seat, wouldn't know where to begin.

Good luck with your new friend keep us up to date.

Welcome! Your horse is really cute.

I have an Arab x saddlebred mare who is also a very very dark liver chestnut. Most people think she's black. (:

thanks everyone!

The first way you could tell if you horse will do saddle seat still, without a lot of retraining would be to check his/her head carriage. If it's held high and forces you to have your hand at waist level or a little higher then most likely she can still do saddleseat.

Here are the pics I Promised.

The first pics are on halloween, I got on him bareback for the first time ever too. he was fine with it. My boyfriend got on first LOL and trust me, he isn't a rider by any means. I just started teaching him and he had never ridden before. He had been on Legend about 4 times just walking LOL and i gave him one hunt seat lesson on a 15hh Arab mare.

This was the first time i rode him outside by the busy road in the front paddock. He was very nervous so we had him hooked up on the lunge line. I took him eventually but he was a ball of fire and just pouring sweat after a 10 minute ride. he will get used to it eventually. It was probably weird for him riding in his paddock that he usually goes out to play in, not work out.
Going into the paddock

He's bucking and rushing and making a bumpy ride for me!

My Sturrip is 2 notches too long for me.. i forgot to adjust this size before i got on

He wont stay still for these pics LOL

Welcome to the board from another Saddlebred lover here. If you want to see some of my "kids", take a look at my albums in my profile. Your ASB looks very sharp - I am so glad you were able to "rescue" him. I hope to have some great saddle seat/ASB chats with you .

Incidentally, if your horse's sire is "Don't Worry" owned by Brian Reimer, then I am very familiar with the bloodline and in fact, have the only spotted ASB sired by the same sire. Your horse has the same neck and head build as Don't Worry and my colt also has that build, although he got his mother's frame on the rest of his body. He's the spotted colt by the name of Kodak in one of my albums.

Hi there! Yes Don't Worry is Legend's Sire. Brian didn't own Don't worry when he was Bred to legend's dam. But I have spoken with the people from Brian Reimer stables about owning one of his Stud's geldings. legend has a half brother (sired by Don't worry) that is for sale in NH named No Time to Worry, that i REALLLLY like. But with his 35,000 $ price tag, i won't be able to purchase him. I would love to have another Don't worry offspring. I am so happy with the bloodlines here. Don't worry is a supreme sultan grandson.. excellent bloodline!

I am looking very forward to chatting saddleseat and saddlebreds with you. Legend is my first saddlebred and i will have questions I am sure! thanks!
