Talking Hey yous with the two year olds...

Are you looking forward to backing them next spring?

I can't wait to climb on Allure next year! She has hit 14hh front and back and has another couple of inches to go to get to her projected height. She's going to be getting plenty of lunging and driving done over the winter to prepare her for the first ride. It's going to be an emotional moment, as we lost her sire in May. I miss him like crazy.

Well... it will be emotional up to the point at which she quickly and efficiently turfs me. She's a little TANK.

Mine is 20months and she's already been backed a handful of times. I back mine at 18 monthsa handful of times and turn them out for the winter. Bring them back in the spring and start real training.

I can't wait til next year... My boy is almost 32 months old and knows the basics [basics in my terms] (basics...walk, trot, stop, backup, canter [though that was an accident]...) So next year we're going to work on some other stuff... I'm planning on teaching him to ground drive through winter and am going to really get cracking on a few other things, then when next March rolls around we'll really get to riding a little more.

Most of them, I'm looking forward to throwing out in the pasture for winter after riding this year Though one I am not looking forward to bringing back in next spring Did you say something about turffing? Little ****** turffed me twice already, and it wasn't bucking but rather a change in direction twice that my stupid self was NOT ready for after a cow. Colt's are NOT supposed to be that quick to respond already.

just kidding, I'm really looking forward to putting him on cows again next year. He's a quick little ****** with a quicker mind.

Gert won't be backed in the spring but in late summer/early fall. She has already had a saddle on her but that's about it...
