Mine just turned two but seriously think it's going to be awhile before I back him. He's such a knuckle head no way would I trust his judgement lol. He's got some serious growing up and maturing to do first. The predicaments he gets himself into!

Jenje!,

I don't have a 2 year old any longer, but I have had the experience. Having raised a foal from the planning stages through today, it is a very unique experience. Every step is rewarding. I'm glad you will get to have such a wonderful opportunity.

When Jess wins a class on Willy, I have to hold back the tears.

Iv'e started them as young as two and as old as four. It depends on their build and psychological maturity. My current filly will be 3 next May and is big bodied and sane. She was saddled last summer but won't be ridden until this year. She's got longer pasterns than I like and is definately not one to start any type of strenuous work too soon.

I am not a fan of starting two year olds. It's a hot button issue with me. And that's all I'll say on the subject.

Allure is currently revisiting the basics of lunging. We are building confidence on the line. She has been known to get confused and frightened at being so far away from her handler, and will barge in and actually threaten me (!!!) in an attempt to be let back into her comfort zone/closer to me. Not happening. She has been doing very well! Now I just need to get her a pair of bell boots.

I have been working with mine, he is in his later 2 year old year. His papers say one thing (His papers say he is later in his 2 year old year, we suspect he is almost 3) but we highly suspect he is much older than his papers say... mostly because when we went to buy him A. the woman had no clue when he was born. B. she kept claiming he was a 2 month old but "Would seperate a poor 2 month old from his mother if we didnt want to pay for them both". C. he was the size of about a 4-5 month old and when I rode his mother he kept wandering off and she didnt care. D. odds are he was a december baby which is just another reason for her to lie. E. all the other foals on her property were born in early January or February. E. she never even filed a stallion report! Thank goodness for the people at AQHA who basically suspended her membership and bugged her until she set things right (by sending in the stallion reports for all her 100ish foals and paying the late fees for registration).

We have been doing mounting, walking, halting, standing still and leg yielding for about 20 mins about 7ish times now I think? I had the vet out to look him over after he hurt himself in the dark and while she was giving us the antibiotics she said she saw no reason he couldnt start doing some minimal riding.

I misunderstood the OP, I thought it meant she'd be 2 next year. Sorry!
