Hey HJ! Trying Coconut Oil!

Yesterday afternoon I detangled the manes and forelocks on all 3 of our boys and combed coconut oil into them first with my fingers and then with the *w i d e* tooth comb that I have.... I am hoping for good results! I checked them before bed, and true to what everyone has said, there was no oily residue left! The manes were softer and laying better, but no greasy look! I intend to do this every now and then...HJ, how often would you suggest? Their manes are really dry!

I didn't get any pix. sorry!!

YAY!!

I put some on once a week or so. It depends on how dry the weather is too You can put it on as soon as the hair looks dry...I've put it on as close as every other day sometimes.

How did you like the melt in your hands factor?

Ooo I hope you have great results with it! I sure have!

I've also been using it on my filly's hooves as a conditioner. It works better than anything else I've ever used on horse hooves before.

Get piccies!!

Me too! I always have some left over on my hands and I just rub it on her feet.

It was really interesting to use! Kinda felt like soft parafin or hard lard! Yes, it softened in my hands and I just stroked it through the hair with my fingers at first. The boys loved it.

I think I might use it really often for the next couple of weeks. Their manes soaked it up big time! It could be the answer for Bud's mane that lays every which way and feels more like fishing line than hair! Also, JR's is so thick -- the oil seemed to make it more "manageable". Dusty's mane is thin and a bit wavy, and will likely get VERY soft with the oil.

I had a tough time getting the coconut oil.... The health food store had offered to order it, but it took about 2 weeks and then what they got was more like a suntan lotion! I wouldn't take it and they were miffed at me, therefore I didn't ask them to try again. SO I ordered from the site you suggested, and bought 2 containers while I was at it! Should have done that in the first place.

Thanks!
BonnieM

On their hooves, huh? Hmmm....might have to try that. Right now their hooves are covered with mud! But, sounds like a good thing to try! Will do!

I will do some pix! They are all still so dirty that it is embarrassing. We have had the lousiest cold wet muddy spring, and of course the boys are not yet all shed out and are deep down dirty! I had combed out their manes last night before I used the coconut oil, and that made their manes seem cleaner! Can't wait to do a spa day for them! MAYBE Saturday or Sunday...but it is still so cool (50's-maybe 60's.) I know they can take it, but I don't enjoy it! Ha.

Ooo spa days!! No fun for us though..haahahhaha well, except enjoying torturing the mudballs who would prefere to remain.. mudballs.. bwahahhaa!!

On Gert's spa days (one should be coming up in the next few weeks as she layed and rolled in fresh poo yesterday) I put some of the coconut oil mixed in with the shampoo or with leave-in conditioner and spritz it on..
