Here I go again with a new rescue!

So after not learning my lesson about exactly how much time, effort, and MONEY goes into adopting a skinny rescue horse, here I go again! I brought home a mare today that is all banged up, skinny, not broke, and possibly pregnant. She is a registered TB, but of course no papers come with her. The breeding was an accident, and they don't even know for sure if she's pregnant, and if she is will drop a baby in December. She seems very sweet for only being halter broke, and she settled into her new home nicely without any drama. Here are the pics I took of her, some when I went to go look at her, and then some when she got to our barn. She doesn't have a barn name either, so I posted in the names section.

The story, as I was told, is that she had some kind of episode a few days ago or so where she was laying down thrashing around really hard and scraped herself all up. She also swelled up really big behind her head. She's got more scrapes and hairless spots on her poll and under her mane. They didn't know if she was colicking or if she had some kind of virus or whatever. They gave her a couple shots of Banamine, and by the next day she was back to normal, but they never figured out what was wrong.

She doesn't have a tattoo, but I do have her registered name, which is Take A Jet. She's not broke at all.

Could this be her?

Just realized that if that is her, her stallion stood at Fleming Thoroughbred Farm, Arizona in 2002.

That's her. I googled her last night and saw her pedigree and sale record.

Is she really a PB thoroughbred? Because her "episode" sounds like an HYPP positive horse.... I mean, just because they SAY its the horse they told you, doesn't mean the truth was told. She looks PB, but you never know. HYPP can hide for years and years and pop up out of the blue.

If not, it could be a seizure. Seizures are hard to figure out, animals and humans. Some people/animals will have one seizure in their life and never have another and sometimes doctors/vets just can't figure it out. If she has more and she is having seizures because she has epilepsy, you may be able to find meds to control it, but the reason may never be found because epilepsy can be mysterious. I know some other diseases, sicknesses, problems can cause seizures until they are pin-pointed or fixed and then will go away, but its a broad field. My fiance has epilepsy, but at least he isn't 1000 pounds. I would definitely, definitely run tests to make sure its not something that is going to come back once you are breaking her in and are riding her. It would suck for her to go down and start thrashing with a person on her back. I'd personally be nervous about it happening again even if the vets don't find something conclusive.
