herd bound....

Hi guys !
I was just thinking or a little but very annoying problem
Where i board Sage theres about 12 other horses so its a pretty big heard. So when I go out for trails alone , sage walks slow and sorta tries to turn around , And also the horses will call to him until we are about a mile away then they finally stop. SO when they call for him he calls back and therefore is distracted and stops listening to my cues . i was just wondering How whould i get his attention back on me and help him concentrate on what i am asking?

thanks for any help

I just gave some basic advice on another thread you could use-

Best Laid Plan Went To Heck!

Also, I don't let my horse holler back, he is reprimanded if he does. It can take awhile to break it but you are right, he is not listening to you! When my used to do that if I was leading him I would rip on his lead and back him up good, if he was tied or we were riding I'd growl NO and smack his neck fast!

It's funny because every once in awhile he will still try it but as soon as he sees me his eyes get big and his holler fades out like Uh Oh LOL

Do be careful with a herd bound horse, some can get dangerous like was said before. As good as I think my horse is, he could be a real hard headed snot when he was determined and anytime they get like that they are all dangerous.
