Question Help with BCS - you be the judge

This guy just arrived at our barn - I read the BCS scale, and I can't quite determine where he fits. Please take a look at these photos and tell me where you think he ranks, and why. (more nutrition questions to follow! )

This horse appears to be a 2. Would have to be physically there in person to manipulate certain areas of the body to know if they are a 2.5 or not.

Well, that's sort of what I was thinking... when I was looking at him. Then I came back and looked online, and thought... "no, he can't be THAT bad"... back to the barn, and thinking... "yeah, it's pretty bad".

You can run your finger along his backbone and clearly see and feel each vertebrae. His withers seem significantly higher than the rest of him. There is very little softness (except his gentle eyes ) to this horse.

He's got a long road ahead, but the good news is that he's got a very good situation now, he can't help but thrive.

i would say a 2-3. the first picture, he looks worse. but the second pic, he dosent look as bad, even though hes deffidently skinny!! maybe a 2.5, or a low 3..if that makes any sense..lol =)

I would say a 2. The second picture is deceiving as you can not see the hollow along his spine nor the hollow at his flank. I would doubt he could pull off a 2.5. But again, hard to tell from pictures. I would be suprised though.

I know it's hard to tell from pictures - and I was in a rush when I got these.

So y'all think it's more like *2*?

I should have asked the vet what she thought when she was out yesterday, but her "wow, he's really really skinny" sort of summed it up for me at the time.

Now I need try to figure out how he got this way, and then, what to do to get him back into shape in short order.
