I agree, I am not sure what to believe. I watched the video, and it certainly appeared to me that those horses drowned. Which, to me is very uneccessary. But, I think that I'd have to see the race to judge for myself.
And, I also agree with MyBabyTex in that the stats of one race a year as opposed to just about every other horse event where many events are held a year (from racing to eventing, showjumping to rodeo) have to be pretty telling as to how safe this actually is.

I can't see how that is being compared to working the ranches, because working on the ranch is just that--working. This isn't working, it isn't accomplishing anything other than maiming and/or killing some horses and/or people. I don't see the point in it. I watched the first and last videos up to a point, the ones in the river, that's just harsh. I don't get people. Don't think I ever will, though, not just because of this.

hehe I thought of "The Man From Snowy River" too. Good movie!

I think thats cruel. Because i meen even for show jumping they stop and quickly walk or trot down a hill and the hills are 50 times smaller than this one. They walk or trot down it because they know galloping is dangerous. SO making a horse gallop full speed down a 210 oot hill is rediculous. Its basically the game of suicide. YOu migh t be 10 out of the lucky 100 to make it with out getting seroius injuries. I think thats cruel jus tlike so many other rediculous games and races humans have came up with

Hmm...yes, this is an old race that has been going on there for a long time..... it would be hard for them to get the org. to stop it...but I agree that they should be forced to abide by some safety standards....

I literally find that disturbing. I almost starting CRYING when I saw those videos...I don't really see how there can be 2 sides to that, I think hurting horses like that, is disgusting and cruel.

I'm scared of WALKING down steep hills. I think I'd have a heart attack at the top.

I can't see both sides to this though.
