And then you have herds such as the Keiger Mustangs, ....oh heck, there are 4 other "specific" mustang herds that are semi-ferrel and bred constantly and SOLD.

NOT just the Mutts running through the Nevada corridor or in Arizona or in New Mexico.

Sweetie, you are preaching to the choir, but I think you need to research your views a little more throughly before you panic....

It seems to me, most of you posting take the stand that it is best for them to die. Slaughterhouse is not humane. What gets me the most, is no one views it as worth fighting for.... you would rather throw the towel in and call it quits. These animals deserve to live, and live as they were created to live.
Imagine if it one of these slaughter horses was your show horse. Would you let your beloved animal die? Or would you at least make a stand, regardless of how pointless it may be. At least you tried, and that's nothing to be ashamed of.

When you say "put down" I was under the impression that they were being "slaughtered". Im not sure which is worse death to bear slaughtering or starving. Either way I understand that the population needs to be controled but isnt there a better way to do it?

If my show horse was going to starve to death and waste away I would want him to die a quick death.

I DO agree with you that some slaughter houses are NOT humane, and that DOES upset me, they should definitly be monitored so that the horses die humanely....

Solve where these horses are going to go and be maintained in a HUMANE, NON-STARVING way, then come back to me with the "end slaughter" bill. And i'll support you through and through.

WHICH by the way, i'm now apart of that process. (been recruited to help do some research, I'll get back to ya'll on that when I get all the details....don't you love "friends">....LOL)

I am now the BOUNCE person, basically they toss the ideas, and I"m the Pessimist that is to poke holes in their ideas till we get a good, financially sound, stable plan on WHAT to do with the horses not slaughtered, needing rescued, etc......and hopefully, the gameplan in 5 years to submit a bill with the anti-slaughter...becasue we know it ain't gonna pass anytime soon.

If it does, man myfriends will be scrambling for a foothold to deal with neglected, abused, unwanted horses.

WHICH are on the rise currently in many parts of this nation. EVEN RESCUES are being shut down because of neglegences!!! Or killing horses with "kindness" because theya re all heart and no knowledge.

Sorry, but do you really mean that? I would much rather see a horse die QUICKLY then to suffer. I think the issue here shouldn't be IF they slaughter but HOW. If it is humanly, and its unavoidable (which, face it, it IS) then I just ask that it be done quick and painless and with as LITTLE fear to the horse as possible.

We aren't giving up, but calling and WHINING about it ain't helping either.

STOP breeding unneccesary foals. STOP your friends from bringing a "cute" foal into the world. That is step one.

Legislatures are not "HORSE SMART" they see numbers, finances, and go..hmmm...NOpe not financially sound.

They hear whining and go, Sorry, can't help you because we DON"T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

But by doing your research, doing your marketing plans, you can accomplish MORE than by whining to your senator. HELP the issue by HELPING us come up with plans on what to do with them.

THEN we can take the next step and say NO MORE SLAUGHTER which can and will be signed ONCE we solve this issue. Because Vets will support it, Horse INdustry will support it, EVERYONE Will support it and it will be a SOUND, RIGHT decision at that time.

But currently, it isn't.
