you may wanna try damping the mane a little bit when you are brading to help with the sticky out bits!!

i cant braid very well, but i always try to but take them out... make sure that the show your going to approves of them, cause the worst thing is to get your braids nicely done and have to remove them.

You have to keep spraying them to keep them damp until you're done, and then when you're all done, put hair gel on to keep them from frizzing when dry.

I am not great at plaiting but I always seperate the mane into even spaced "bunches" - 11 on my TB and 13 on my ID - first.

I use hair gel and plait as tight as possible then band and roll (fold in half then again) and finally sew in. I use hairspray to tidy up the little stray bits. Sewing in is a bit more difficult than just banding but it does keep the braids in neater I think

A tip is not to plait a really clean mane - wash a few days before - soft silky manes are a nightmare! Slightly dirty sticky manes plait up much better - lol
