Help Needed In Illinois....details inside

Because of the Court ruling, horses at the Cavel Plant may be in need of a home.

Quote:
Urgent: Volunteers needed in Illinois

As of 11:00 am March 29, 2007 we are working through the courts to
try to secure the purchase and safety of potentially 200 horses
either currently at the Cavel slaughter plant in Dekalb Illinois, or
that are enroute to Cavel.

Cavel is asking the court for an emergency injunction to allow them
to kill the horses based on the premise that they have nowhere to go
with the animals.

We disagree...we are in the process of securing a large temporary
triage facility capable of sheltering all horses in need due to the
shut down at Cavel. We are looking at facilities in the northern part
of Illinois as possible staging grounds.

I need people to stand ready to help to feed and care for the horses
should we be successful in gaining custody of the animals. We may not
know the outcome of the courts decision for a few hours yet, but we
need to be prepared should the court rule in our favor.

Please email me at glv190 @ aol.com (remove spaces) if you are able
to physically assist in the care of the horses. Please be certain to
include your phone number and location.

We will also need donations of equipment such as halters, leads,
buckets, hay, bedding, feed etc. Please do not send anything just
yet...please just stand ready and let me know if you can help.

Thanks so very much!

Gail truelly is a wonderful lady!! I hope they rule in her favor. She will make sure some how that all the horses get what they need.

Another friend of mine said she drove by Cavel this morning and there were 6 semis waiting to unload.

Probably. I am sure that they will need vet care as well as feed costs.

I would suggest e-mailing Gail. Like I said she is wonderful person. And she will be totally honest with you and answer anything you want to know.

Having lived in DeKalb for many years prior to moving to TExas, there are a lot of locals that will help out. Alot of horse people in that area.

Just because there is a lot of horse people in the area, doesn't mean you will see a lot of help FROM that area.

Many people are already strapped. The last thing they are going to do is take on the one horse that will bring the WHOLE group down.

I got into an argument with a lady just a bit ago. Because she assumes that because a friend of ours has "fat happy" horses, he can afford to take on whatever is necessary.

Problem is, he sacrificed 16 head to so those horses that are left can thrive without suffering.

I was trying to figure out if I could take on one (even just for a few months) but realy I can't. The extra cost I could not take on plus right now I'm in a financial bind because my office is closing in a few months. However, I think I can help with a one time donation or maybe see if I have a spare halter or two to send.

I agree with BW 100%

There are alot of local people within Illinois that will help. But not to the point that it will cover 200 horses.

Things are already hard on alot of people and alot of rescues.
