| Senior Member+ | Help me choose between english/western
Okay, i can't chose, can't chose at all. I bounce back and forth between the two. All i know is: I Love english, love love love love love love love love....english. *ahem* And i have the saddles and bridles already for it. I have the chance to get a very nice dressage saddle as well. So i can pursue eventing if i wanted to. Stormy looks great english, has a floaty trot, has a natural ability for jumping (free jumped before) just needs a little grid work when he's ready. Even the most western loving riders would love to see him english. I kind of like western, i don't feel as comfy as i should. I enjoy gaming, but i've done it very little and not very sucsesfully, i also have the chance to get a western saddle, but not of the greatest quality. Stormy looks "Ehh..." western, but i don't think he cares. So my question is, what should i do? Stick with what i know, (english) or do western which i don't even know if i'll enjoy but to just change it up. Stormy:

You should stick with what you know and are comfortable with. I have always rode western and I feel awkward on an english saddle. Don't spend money on equipment you won't use. I am just being practicle. It is the mother in me.

| Senior Member+ | stick with english for a while, work hard, learn a ton, teach your horse, etc. once the two of you get good, and you feel comfortable with your seat, legs, and aids, etc...then if your still interested switch to western. The reason I say this is because then you'll be able to focus soely on one discipline that both you and your horse already have a bit of ground in - and improve. Once you've got that down well, try out western, by then it won't be too huge of a leap because your horse will already be well trained, etc. If you really want to try western, then do what I said only switch it around. Either way, when your horse is learning something new (and when you are learning something new or improving a lot) it's best to stick with it until you've got it down really well and solid, before moving on to something different. Good Luck! |

| Senior Member+ | Ok, you said you love, love, love english, and talk about saddles and eventing and so on, then you say you kinda like western. I don't think you have a big decision to make. I would go with your passion instead of going for something you really can't get excited talking about. |

I think you should do whatever you want to do. Your horse can be like Diamond, mult-tasked Good luck with your choice. P.S your horse is beautiful!

Stormy is pretty green, correct? If thats the case I would stick with what you know while you are training him. That way you will feel more comfortable and you can focus more on him learning these new things than you also having to learn a whole new discipline. Once both you and him are comfortable working together in the discipline you are most comfortable, that is when I would switch it around and try some new things, start teaching him gaming, etc. Good luck! |
