Help..Joint Supplement Question...

We bought a 5 yr old gelding in July and my prepurchase vet said he had a possible stiff hock on one side that may have also been a result of being kicked by another horse the day before the exam ( hoof print on his flank

). I have not seen any evidence of stiffness but my trainer suggested putting him on VitoFlex MSM joint supplement- one scoop a day. I have done this since mid August and I am wondering if I should take him off now??? Is this something that will help him anyway? Is he too young to be on this daily?

I'm not familiar with that particular brand of MSM. But, many 5 year olds are on daily joint supplements....even as a preventative means. I wouldn't take him off it unless you decide to change supplements. Perhaps it is the MSM that is keeping him comfortable for you.

Both of my horses, 10 yr and 3 yr, are on daily supplements. Vitaflex MSM is one of them. I believe in prevention.

I tend to agree but I wasn't sure. I'll keep him on the low dose.

My horse has been on MSM since the day I got him, when he was 3 years old.
