fill cups with water and make them wal and trot and who ever has the most water left at the end wins(can be just a couple minutes long)

musical tires, like musical chairs, just with tires.

How old is the little kid?

I usually find I get about 15 minutes of actual work time and the rest I just play whith them on the horse. Play silly stuff like talk to the horse like your having a conversation about the kid etc. Basically just get them comfortable on a horse.

You can't really get them to focus too much until they are about 8. I find until the age of about 12-14 they just do not have the attention span for more than a half hour lesson.

i think you have the right idea in the OP. Try to remember all the basics and make a game out of the moves. Try to use images kids can relate to, they'll remember what you are saying better. Like, "pretend you are a doll with sand weighing down your rfeet and bottom." or "pretend you are wearing a baseball cap and there is a string attached to the button and someone is pulling your head and spine straight up"

Asfaloth os right on, you are only only going to get 15 or 20 minutes of actual focus from little little kids, and thats where the games come in.

I used to have parents book hour long lessons for their 6 year olds and I always tried to convince them to change to 1/2 hour lessons. Its just like training a green horse, if you go too long, you loose the focus and risk burning them out.
