Late in pregnancy mares with puff or grunt when they lay down because baby is big enough they can't take a full breath when they lay down.

She could be encouraging the foal into a different position by laying down. How long has she been down?

Are there any other signs. Full bag? Opaque white milk?

Has she foaled before?

Due dates are speculative at best. She might be having some gas colic or the foal could be causing her to feel colicky.

You might want to put your vet on alert in either case.
