The purpose of the tie ring is to teach them how to give.

I realize this, which is why I first suggested a tie ring. I have an arabian mare who would pull back to the extent of pulling horse trailers around. I bought an aussie tie ring for her and it helped immensly, within minutes she didn't pull back... with the tie ring. She learned very quickly to give to the pressure on that. However, she realized the difference in being able to move her feet with thetie ring and being traditionally tied up.
I was mainly adding my novel sized post in because groundwork will help immensely and make the process of teaching her to tie with and without the tie ring even faster as well as added control of her feet in other areas.
