Help..Cat Jumping On EVERYTHING!!

Okay I posted on a cat forum but no one there seems to be helping out or responding and I'm hoping my HGS family can help!!

My cat is 10mo old and he's usually pretty good except he jumps on EVERYTHING. He's not allowed on the computer desk, dresser, bathroom counter/sink, kitchen sink, window sill.. I've tried spraying him with water when I catch him in the act and also tried those sprays you buy in the store that are supposed to keep him off of certain things or areas. Is there anything else I could try? I swear he does it on purpose..he KNOWS he's not allowed up there and Knows what he's doing.. Argh..

Well... this might not be popular, but it works:

You can buy "scat mats" in most big pet stores. Basically it delivers a little electric current when they jump on it. Not enough to hurt 'em, but enough to inspire them to stay off in the future. IF he's not smart enough to realize when you've moved it off the area of focus, you can rotate it around to all the places he jumps until he figures it out. My sister-in-law (who rescues dogs and cats) says this is the best (read: quickest) way to solve the jumping problem.

I wonder if you put sticky paper, or make a mat of tape (like duct tape), sticky side up on these surfaces, if that would be a deterrent. Might be worth a try?

Good luck!

Hmm I like the sticky thing. I honestly don't think the scat mat would work.. but it'd be woth a try and I don't mind putting money down on something that might work. When I catch him in the act I'll give him a good smack on the rear, nothing that will hurt him of course, but enough to where he knows that's bad. But he ALREADY knows its bad! I'll turn around and there he is on the dresser, I get up and he takes off like a bat out of h*ll and thinks I'm playing.. he's such a brat..

I really think the sticky tape/mat would work on hard surfaces, like counter tops, where you could secure it so it doesn't slide around.

I've also been told that if you want to use the squirt gun method, vinegar can be added for more success.

Personally, I'm not crazy about that plan - I'm a terrible shot, and I don't want everything *else* in the house getting a vinegar bath!

I like the vinegar idea, but I also don't want my place smelling like that.. ick! If I can find the tape, I'll try that first.. I know he doesn't like things sticking to him MWAHAHAHAHA and if that fails I'll try the mat

Bad kitty LOL!! My cat does the same and shes 3 years old, she does it because she knows she's not allowed and wants to annoye me just like your cat.

I have tried spraying her that doesnt work either she likes it LOL!

She however hates the smell of vinegar and if you spray it just at the cat or in the air your house wont smell, I cant smell it in my house. Tin foil is a good idea to some cats hate it.

Also I make a loud hissing sound at her and clap my hands when shes on the counter and she jumps right off she hates the sound and so do my other cats.

Good luck

I guess a little vinegar goes a long way too - so it's not like you're bathing the place in the stuff. It's worth a try, at any rate!

I like the aluminum foil idea too!

OK i didnt read any posts so If any of this is repeditive, SORRY! lol.

You can purchase these mats called Scat mats. I have never used one but I herd they work great and I am actually thinking of purchasing one for my boxer! lol. Also WHy dont you try TAPE! Like lay it flat so It sticks to him. My friends cat HATES tape. Any time it realy anoys us we just slap some tape on him. It keeps him busy! SO just put tape where he jumps on!!!
