Helmets?

Ok, I'm going to try to post a poll with this message. I've noticed lately that there are a LOT of people posting pictures that are riding without helmets. Is this normal for you?

Personally, I have cracked a helmet during a fall, so I'm a firm believer. We did an exhibition ride recently in cowboy hats, and it made me very uncomfortable to know I did not have my head protected...

Always. It is compulsary at my yard and everywhere I have been, but even if it wasn't I would still ride with. People say "it won't happen to me", but I learnt that that is NOT TRUE when Ace tripped and fell on me and almost broke both my legs in the summer. It was not fun, to say the least.

My friend is at a palce where you don't have to wear helmets, but she told me that she just feels weird not wearing one, and she feels unprotected, ya know? She has been there almost a year, and ridden one without a helmet because she left hers at home by accident. And she didn't like it.

I try to ride in my helmet, sometimes I forget though. I ride so many horses in a night, I am lucky that I remember to bring the horse out, much less my helmet!
But, whenever I jump or am riding a young horse or an unknown horses, I am always sure that I have mine on. It's when I am riding my horse or the few others that I ride for people that I get sloppy and forget it.

I try to set an example though for all of my clients, since I prefer for them to wear one.

I always wear my helmet while riding! I believe it doesn't matter how old you are, how old the horse is, or the experience of both. If that horse gets spooked, and you fall of and hit your head, it won't be good. I had a friend who wore a helmet up until she was 18 years old, then she stopped. I'm like, "Because you are one day older than yesterday, you won't fall off and get hurt?!" I think you should be better safe than sorry.

Just FYI, this tends to be a very touchy subject around here! LOL

I'm guilty of riding without one from time to time, but I try to always remind myself of the risk I'm taking when I don't.

The only time I ride with a hemlet is:

1. at a show during my english classes
2. when I am jumping at home/at a show
3. when I am riding a young horse (just being started, very little training)

I know the risk I am taking when not wearing a helmet, but that is my choice.

Also, I know htis gets to be a touchy subject so I think we should just SAY if we do or not, and not worry about what other people do, that way noone will get offended or anything.

I usually don't unless I feel like being extra cautious (ex. with new horse/new surroundings or something like that)
