Welcome to the forum!!! Lady and Bella are beautiful and look like they're in good hands! This is the best place to learn about horses... there are so many experienced people on here. Having your boyfriend around will be a big help too...

17 isn't that old for a horse yet... she's still got plenty of good years left in her. Plus... an older horse is the best to learn on.

When you're ready to wean Bella post a thread in the Breeding section and you will get plenty of solutions. I found when I weaned Teak that it was the least stressful to just put him in a stall next to momma where he could see and smell her... but there was wire wesh across so he couldn't nurse. He never got stressed out or whinnied for her.

I think I would only do it in a smaller area though, because I've heard of foals getting hurt from trying to jump fences to get back in with their mom. My panels were 6', so Teak never even tried.

Just had to add... I LOVE chinchillas!!! I've always wanted one...

If this works, there should be three chin pictures The middle picture I actually have as a tattoo on my leg

Bella--a Black velvet female.... Or I guess Isabella since the horses name is Bella, lol.

Jane(Was not named at the time, so named her after my tattoo artist--his name was Jake)

And two unnamed brothers(lighter one is going to his new home very shortly ):
