Heavy Turnout Blankets/Rugs???

I've got a cotton summer turn out sheet that fits Lexi, actually two of them, but want to get her into a turn out blanket for fall/winter to keep her from over coating up this winter.

It's been YEARS since I last bought a blanket at all. I want a turn out blanket since I can't afford a stall blanket AND one that will withstand weather.

I get alot of rain and wind in my part of the country. Temps usually don't get below 38 degrees but last winter we had weather for over a week that was below zero with the wind chill (these are all Farenheit btw) so want a blanket that will stay dry and warm.

The horses are not turned out into the big field if it's raining, but I also don't lock them in their stalls, rather allow them in out access to their runs off of the stalls.

Weatherbeeta make wonderful turnout rugs that are light and very warm plus 100% waterproof.
Or Canta, I have one and I love it. It's like a WB, but a little cheaper.

i really like the rambo's and rhino's made by horseware. i get mine from doversaddlery. I also have a weatherbeeta taka, that i really like. these blankets are breathable and waterproof. they come in a light, med, and heavy. i would get a med, if it doesn't go below 32. that taka i bought, came with a fleece liner, and when it got below 32, i put that fleece liner under the blanket. also, from dover, is rider's horse clothing. my friend has a few and they are holding up pretty well so far. i think these blankets are at statelinetack too.

Thanks Guys! Rambo looked good in the Dover Catalog, I hate to buy stuff sight unseen, so am trying to find one local... so far none of the shops around here carry them that I can find but I haven't looked down in Seattle yet or up in BC... It might be more cost effective with exchange rate to buy in BC, I need to compare... I'm also considering trying to sew one myself, not that it would end up being less $$ probably and I'm not the worlds greatest seamstress, but I have this idea for a microfleece liner I'm tempted to try out

I just got my statelinetack book in the mail (YEA) and the have sneak preview flyer in with it. The listed a new blanket, MASTA, they look really nice. There is a stableblanket, called the stablemasta deluxe, and its waterproof and breathable, filled with 340 grams. its 99.99. If you want the flyer, let me know, I can copy it and email it to you. They also list the takas; heavy is 249.99, med 229.99, light 199.99, and a neck attachment for 89.99. Weatherbeeta also has the arion, orican, fusion, and everest. The rhinos - 200 grams list for 156.99, 370 gram is 159.99

Here, here. Rambo was the only brand that my horse didn't demolish. And it had a nice shape to it. (The Rhino looked like potato sacks, ugly) I loved that blanket, it's the only brand I think I'll ever buy again. We've gone through our fair share of blankets. The Rambo breathed the best, he absolutely was never damp under that thing.

Thanks MB! That's great imput. Since we live in the same climate if it kept your horse dry, it would keep mine dry. When it rains she tends to just stand in her stall anyway, but I hate it when horses get soaked down with a rug on their back, just because a squall hit when you were at the grocery
