| Full Member | Thanks for all your help. Do you have any pictures of a correct headset vs. and incorrect one? There are mirrors that I can open while I'm riding to see how his head is.

| Senior Member+ | Correct http://www.kellymcginn.com/Canter%20Pirouette%20with%20frame.jpg ![]() Incorrect http://www.horsemanpro.com/images3/harmony-what200.jpg http://www.sustainabledressage.com/r...t/367_6714.gif The first horse is advanced, obviously, but he uses his back nicely and collects instead of just folding the head. He's overall 'round' The incorrect horse is on the forhand+hollows the back a little. The rider just pulls the head in.Do you see how the poll is not the highest point anymore?that is wrong.

| Senior Member+ | While indeed several of the pictures are of a correct posture, keep in mind that most of them are FAR above the level that you are, Phoenix. So, your horse isn't going to look like that, and if he does, it's likely not a back to front frame, but front to back. Here is what your horse might look like at a relatively low level of dressage: (from ClassicalDressage.com - Dedicated to the Preservation and Promotion of classical Horsemanship.) ![]() The head and neck are lower, but the horse is still using his hind end, lifting his withers, and is round from tail to poll. Even this is still good: ![]() If you're at an even lower level, this "headset" is perfect for the situation - the horse is working from behind, back is lifted, hind feet tracking up, withers lifted, but the amount of collection isn't what the previous 2 pictures were, and is certainly not what it is in the beautiful picture that Just Me posted. But it's a perfectly fine place for the lower level horse to be, and is a place where even upper level horses still need to be able to work: ![]()

| Full Member | Ok. Thanks for the help! We only do novice but I would like to take him up into training for eventing. I would LOVE to be able to have him do reasonable in a First Level test. But that dream is a LONG way away! LOL

| Senior Member+ | It's not about the headset, it all comes from behind. Your horse needs to be working correctly from behind with impulsion and forewardness. Do you have any pics of you riding your horse??
