how do you teach a horse to keep their headset. snickers will do a headset but only for a little bit and i really have to work with her on it but if im not really trying she wont do it. how do i make her do it on a daily basis? she tucks her head nicely when she wants to

I know Im going to get bashed for this, but I like using a training fork, or in English terms, a running martingale.

That looks good to me, what are you wanting different? What type of riding do you do?

You are not holding her in frame then if she won't keep it there. You need to work on exercises to allow her to feel comfortable holding it that way. I agree with AQHA...

u do NOT want a head set, you want a round horse from head to tail. you need to push your horse up with your leg in to your hand so she works from her hind end forward, once she has that then her head should come right into place, and she should be able to hold it all on her own (once she builds the muscles up). P.S. where that head and neck are in that pic is to high for hunters

when your horse is round from head to toe it will have a 'head set' and by that I mean it will have a round neck and a tucked in head (not behind the verticle) so having the head at the verticle is not incorrect it's how you achieve the head set. You want to focus on the hind end not the head and neck. Here is a pic of my mare ![]() Now she is very slightly behind the verticle (she was super lazt this day) but that's about where you want the neck and head to be. She is using her hind end and she should be tracking up b/c of this. me and her pretty much always place in the a and b rated shows, especially on the flat. I do want to say that some judges like a little bit of a poked out nose, but I like them at the verticle and so do alot of judges i think
